Mens Coaches Locked In

We are pleased to have finalised our Men’s Squad Coaches for Season 2025:

  • Carlos Grande - Senior Coach

  • Adrian Rodriguez - Senior Assistant Coach

  • Kevin McIntyre - Reserves Coach

  • Shane Light - Thirds Coach

Carlos & Adrian continue in their roles after a successful 2024 Season that saw the senior team finish 4th. Having retained majority of last years squad, the pair have challenged the squad to aim for a top two finish this season, having recruited quality & depth to the playing group.

We are beyond delighted to announce the return of Kevin McIntyre as Reserves coach. Kev held this role from mid 2019 to the end of 2022. In that time he guided the team to 5th place in the shortened 2021 season, then in his only full season in the role, in 2023 his team finished 3rd amassing a whopping 94 goals in 22 games. Kev’s history at the club goes back to our founding days, as he was one of the OG junior coaches.

“Lighty” continues his role as Thirds coach/player. He over saw the return of the Sunday team last season and has helped nurture a great culture and sense of togetherness within the squad.

Sky Blues continue development

This news article was written by Tara Murray and appears in the February 4th edition of the Star Weekly.

Gisborne has lifted a gear in the pre-season as it aims to build on last year’s FV state league 5 west season.

The Sky Blues found themselves in second for much of the season in their first season back in state league 5 before fading.

For coach Carlos Grande it was a really good starting point for the group heading into this year.

“We’re looking forward to getting out there,” he said. “We’ve got a pretty good bunch that has put in the hard hards like every other team.

“They were a good bunch of boys and the mentality is good as well. We’ll give it a crack.”

Heading into his second season as coach, Grande said he had been able to step things up and further implement his plans.

He said he had the full support of the coaching group and the club.

“I was able to massage out some of the knots,” he said. “There was a lot of learning last year and I’m able to be more assertive with direction.

“We have a clear direction where we want to get to.”

The Sky Blues will have a similar side to last season, but have managed to add in some players.

One of the most pleasing things is that former players are wanting to come back to the club.

“It’s a bit of a mix,” he said. “The list from last year was competing for the league and was in second spot.

“It opened the eyes to players in the Macedon Ranges… That we are heading in the right direction.

“The senior program is attracting good qualify players back to the club and we already have a good bunch of players.

“Towards the end of the last season we had a few 15-16-year-olds do training sessions with the senior squad. We want to create that pathway into seniors.”

Grande said one of his aims was to see those younger players progress through the ranks into the senior side in his time in charge.

After having some success last season, Grande said they wanted to build on that this year.

The Sky Blues will be in action on the weekend of February 15 as the Dockerty Cup gets underway.

The Sky Blues have drawn Moreland Eagles in round one

Grande said they have set themselves a goal for the cup.

“We want to get past the first round,” he said.

Vale Jess Patience

We are saddened to learn of the passing of our former player, Jess Patience.

"Patio" was a member of our inaugural Senior Men's team, who were Champions in 2011.

He was a tough hardworking player, always with a team first attitude. Off-field his infectious laugh & smile was the life of the dressing room, if his teammates were having fun then "Patio" was having fun.

We extend our condolences to the Patience family and his friends, he will be greatly missed.

Gisborne beats top team

This news article was written by Lucy Dowell and appears in the August edition of the Gisborne Gazette.

In a memorable match on 20 July, the Gisborne Senior Men’s soccer team delivered an impressive performance, defeating the top-ranked Lara United with a final score of 3-1. The victory marks a significant achievement for Gisborne, as the first team to get the better of Lara this season.

After conceding a goal just after halftime, Gisborne rallied with a remarkable effort, scoring three in the second half. With goals from John-Anthony Bennici, Vasko Vasilevski and Quinn Borg, the team’s offensive strength was on display. The match saw its fair share of intensity, with several players – including a certain ex-Socceroo – receiving yellow cards.

This was a testament to the high stakes and passionate play from bothteams, with their competitive instincts in full force. Under the guidance of new coach Carlos Grande and leadership of captain Sam Allen and vice-captain Hayden Formosa, Gisborne has emerged as a contender for promotion to State League 4.

The team has demonstrated exceptional growth and morale this season, positioning itself strongly with only five games remaining. Gisborne remains dedicated to maintaining its momentum and finishing the season on a high note.

James Pernice is also a new face at the club, his experience comes from his time at Alphington FC, Darebin FC & Westside Strikers.

All four were standout choices for their roles having displayed their natural leadership and support right throughout the pre-season.

Coaches Mentor

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Krywula as Coaches Mentor for Season 2024.

Andrew brings 15 years playing & 15 years coaching experience.

He will be supporting our coaches from U8s right through to the Senior program.

2024 sees the biggest investment the club has made in coaching across the board. For the first time our Senior Men have 4 coaches for the State League program. We have also appointed Alex Phung & Cameron Emery as Junior Boys coaches as we look for a more structured pathway between the Junior & Senior programs.

Meanwhile in the Junior Girls program Carl Valeri & Vince Ryan continue in their roles as our girls continue to develop ready for the return of the Senior Womens program.

Supporting our coaches is a vital and another way to ensure we are getting the most value for our players to allow them to be the best versions of themselves.

Keep an eye out for Andrew at training!
